Norton Nprotect database files are generally classified as data files created and used by the Nprotect software. These database files are saved in the DB- format and are affixed with the .db- extension. The Norton Utilities 15 software and the DB- format were developed by Symantec. File recovery functionalities are integrated into the Nprotect software, which is bundled with version 15 of the Norton Utilities application. The Norton Unerase feature of this software uses the data stored in these DB- files when a user wants to recover a deleted file. how to open a .db- file?

Launch a .db- file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .db- file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .db- files aren't yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open a .db- file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct one for that file. From then on, opening a  .db- file will open the correct application. Norton Utilities is software that was developed by Symantec which acts as an optimization tool for computer running on a Windows environment. The software features wide variety of tools and different processes that allows cleaning and optimization of Windows to ensure that the computer will function properly. It has an Optimize tab which gives the users several capabilities which includes defragmenting and cleaning of the registry, cleaning the disks from histories, temporary files which were saved into the system as well as the lists of recent files, it also aids in ensuring that the different services that Windows provides together with the start-up processes are well-managed. It consists of Administer tabs together with Windows tools which gives its users the capability of customizing scanning of disks and accessing the control panel. The software’s Monitor tab shows its user the performance of the system being used by means of a registry monitor.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .db- files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .db-. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically.
