WinRail is a software product used in designing and drawing model railway layouts with a drawing accuracy of up to +/- 0.05 mm. The software knows the gauge of the track section which is used to calculate the length of the rails of flex sections and displays the rails in the correct distance if the display of ties is switched on. It features Gradient tools for entering gradients without the need of cutting the line off the layout, the 3D-View is orthogonal through a perspective view, dialogue-window to edit existing benchworks. The Module-Definition files is where decimals are entered for the specification of the position of track and catenary masts. Layers may be hidden or displayed with names that contain a certain text and more than one layer can be active simultaneously in order to be able to place catenary in another layer as the track sections. Each layer has a Display or hide layer command for each that can be dragged into a toolbar to hide or display a layer in just one click. It also features a Loosen track tool which removes all connections of a line. The 3D-editor creates tunnel portals individually which are docked and aligned automatically when placed into a track section. WinRail uses Unicode like Windows does.
