You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .xtp. Files with the file extension .xtp can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .xtp files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.

what is a .xtp file?

There are two main applications associated with the .xtp file extension. The first is the AutoCAD, a program that deals with 3D design and documentation CAD. The .xtp files used by this application are located in AutoCAD user interface and they usually refer to palette data files since they contain definitions of palette tools. Typically these palettes are found in .ATC files but sharing it directly to others is impossible so if users want to share them to others they must use the .xtp file format. The second application using the .xtp file extension is the Microsoft InfoPath form creation software. The .xtp files used by this software contain various data such as field, texts and other form features. The good thing about these .xtp files is that users can re-implement these file using other form templates.

how to open a .xtp file?

Launch a .xtp file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .xtp file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .xtp files aren't yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open a .xtp file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct one for that file. From then on, opening a  .xtp file will open the correct application. The new version of the AutoCAD software which is the AutoCAD 2013, has features like the Section and Details View which has a model documentation tab that provides faster access. There is Full, offset, half or aligned to hoose from the section methods. Usrs can specify what boundaries they prefer which can either be rectangular or circular for the details view. The software also offers Strike-thru Text used for providing texts in documents. Mtext, Mleaders, Dimensions, Tables and ArcText has new strikethrough styles for them. The Autodesk 360 Connectivity feature of the software allows synchronization of files including the syncing of drawings and folders with the user's online account which is accessed directly within the software which enables file sharing with other users of Autodesk who has an online account, and users can also share their designs through their social media accounts. The software also comes with a PressPull too that is used to extrude and offset curves to create surfaces and solids. It also lets the user select multiple object using a single PRessPull operation.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .xtp files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .xtp. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
