Fookes NoteTab Light

Fookes NoteTab Light

NoteTab is a program featuring multi-file, full screen text and HTML editing for Windows. Its name is derived from its ability as one of the earliest text editors to be able to edit and manage several open files or documents on a tabbed document interface [that is, different tabs on a single interface]. NoteTab has “Clip”, its own macro language. Clips [clickable macros] can be stored in a library called clipbook. The software has three forms: Light, Standard and Pro. NoteTab Light is a free software. Its latest version is 5.4 incorporated with regular expressions with general syntax using the same rules as Perl. Its Text Editing features are: pasteboard, reuse and create text snippets, in-text calculations, variable-width fonts. Its Web Development features are: HTML5 & CSS3 support, HTML & CSS code libraries, Twitter Bootstrap code library, auto complete HTML code, Web page templates, group project files together, HTML Tidy to improve your code, HTML to Text conversion, Text to HTML conversion. Fookes NoteTab Standard

Fookes NoteTab Standard

NoteTab Standard is the medium package of NoteTab Software’s three products offering much more features than NoteTab Light [free software] but fewer features than NoteTab Pro. Documents created by NoteTab have the format OTL [Notetab Outline File]. These files contain text blocks organized by headings and can be saved as template to make similar files. Web development feature added to Standard is the advanced SEO word statistics that is not featured in NoteTab Light. Added features for advanced users that are not in Light are custom toolbars for scripts, customizable keyboard shortcuts and EBCDIC format for saved files. NoteTab Standard is cheaper than Pro. NoteTab Pro has greater speed than Light and Standard. One feature that is available in Light and Standard but not in Pro is the use of variable-width fonts.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .otl files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .otl. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
