usb stopped working

I updated all of the drivers after doing a backup using your tool. Now only two of 4 USB ports work. Nothing happens when I plug either my mouse or iPhone cable into them. Two still work, two do not. These ports worked prior to using your software. I have since done a RESTORE using your software and they still do not work. Could you please help me resolve this issue? I have a Dell Precision M6600 system if this helps.

Hi Michael,

We\'re sorry to hear about this.

A couple of quick questions/suggestions:

1. Are these ports USB 2.0 or 3.0?
2. Have you tried restarting your computer and checking the two USB ports?
3. Do other USB devices (Flash drive, hubs etc.) work with those ports?
4. Open up the Device Manager in Windows, locate the Universal Serial Bus Controllers and check to see if there are any warning symbols or errors next to the listings.
5. In the Device Manager window, you can also right-click a device and Uninstall a particular USB hub/port, restart your computer and allow Windows to reinstall the device again. This generally fixes such problems.

Hello, thank you for your reply. No other USB devices will work in the affected ports. I have done many reboots, and Device Manager is clean. EXCEPT - and this might not be a problem, but is seems weird to me that I now have two Chipset Controllers under the Universal Serial Buss section in Device Manager. I have a Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C26 and I have Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C2D one as well. I am not sure if I am supposed to have both or not? Also - these are all 2.0 USB hubs. Thanks for the help - I will be forced to reimage my machine I guess if I can\'t resolve this.

UPDATE: I ended up re-imaging my machine, the USB ports are back. I also had 3 bluetooth unknown devices after running your software, now I have none. For me I think I need to not use your product. Perhaps laptop drivers are too specific for something like this.

Hi Michael, I\'m sorry to hear about the outcome. Yes, it is normal to have both those USB controllers listed in the device manager. We\'ve seen this on some machines. In the future, we recommend these less-drastic, easy to use recovery options in such situations: Restart your system and start tapping the F8 key to either load the Last Known Good Configuration (or) the Windows Safe Mode option to get into Windows and use the System Restore feature to restore any recent changes. As for Driver Reviver, we constantly strive to test, validate and deliver high-ranking, compatible driver updates for Laptop hardware. However, some devices can get quite finicky with OEM drivers and may require specific updates from the Laptop manufacturer which may or may not be available. We\'d really appreciate it if you could run a new scan using Driver Reviver and use the Report Feedback option in the scan results window to report the driver updates you had trouble with. We\'ll be sure to take a look and fix them ASAP. Thanks again and sorry for all the trouble. James

Hi Michael,

Your USB ports on your Dell computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.

1. To Identify a Working USB Port

Check Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Hardware and Sound.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers and check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  6. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

2. To Run a Diagnostic Test on your USB Port

Dell has an online diagnostic tool to help identify and fix issues with your system.
  1. Go to the Dell PC Diagnostic page
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Ckick Hardware.
  4. Using the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the window below; locate the listing for USB.
  5. Select USB.
  6. Click Run Diagnostics.
  7. Agree to Terms and Conditions in Legal Statement.
  8. Follow the instructions to test each USB port.
