The Pegasus Mail is a freeware or donationware email program that allows one user or several users to access and manage email based on local installation or network. Generally, this software is available for Microsoft Windows platforms and a version was also released for Mac. It supports multiple POP3, IMAP, SMTP, and Novell's Message Handling System (MHS) protocols. It provides a filtering facility like Bayesian spam filters to allow user to preview, subscribe or unsubscribe to messages. To avoid the malware attacks and security breach, the software used their own HTML layout engine and prevents execution of ActiveX or Javcascript commands. It allows users to categorized and managed emails depending on selected criteria. It provides selection of message templates, plain text and HTML formatting message editor. Aside from reading messages, attached images like JPG or PNG are also viewable. Developed by David Harris, the first version was released for Novell Netware’s MS DOS clients.
