Holt Software Turing (named after British computer scientist Alan Turing) is a structured programming language similar to Pascal that is used primarily as a teaching language for high school and college students. Turing, one of the easiest to learn computer language, has a precise machine-independent semantics and a clean syntax that is ideal for teaching computer concepts. It is available in the original version named “Classic Turing”, a systems programming variant called “Turing Plus”, and a version called Object-Oriented Turing. Ric Holt and James Cordy of the University of Toronto in Canada developed Holt Software Turing in 1982 for educational and commercial applications. The available license packages are Turing for PC, UNIX, and Mac and Object Oriented Turing for PC, UNIX, and Mac. It runs on DOS, Windows, RS6000, SGI and SUN in versions compatible with each platform. It became a freeware on November 28, 2007
