Insight Software Solutions Macro Express

Insight Software Solutions Macro Express

Insight Software Solutions mainly creates and develops macro automation software for Windows. Their flagship product Macro Express is packed with hundreds of macros that automate any function in the operating system. Programming skills are only needed when customizing VB scripts, but ordinary users mostly use Quick Wizards that compose macros for them based on their answers to questions the utility asked. Other people use the Capture tool to record their keystrokes and mouse movements, turn these actions into code, and compile everything into an embedded macro that simulates how humans use the computer. User-generated macros are stored in a MEX file that only Macro Express can read. Macros are activated when the user presses a Hot Key combination, inputs the correct shortkey, clicks on a corner of the screen, and runs them from Macro Explorer or through the DOS command line.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .mex files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .mex. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
