what is a .sow file?
SOW files are game files mostly found in the first person shooter games namely Space Descent and Descent II as well as other older programs of MS DOS. These files saved in the ARJ format contain different information about the games by which they are mostly used for the purpose of game installation since they are also saved in the disk that installs these games. Since SOW files were used in an MS DOS environment, extracting, installing and configuring these files onto a file system of DOS is possible with the use of DOSBOX, emulation software. SOW files can be opened by some Archive Manager programs such as the File Roller in a Linux Operating System by which this application is responsible for creating, modifying, and extracting archives. SOW files can also be opened in a Windows OS with the applications ARJ Software ARJ32 and Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe 2010.

Interplay Descent
Interplay Descent
Interplay Descent is a 3D first-person shooter (FPS) video game developed by Parallax Software and released by Interplay. It is centered on gun and other projectile weapons combat through a first-person perspective. The game features 3D worlds with texture mapping, texture shading, 3D morphing, directional sound effects, and a spectacular soundtrack. It can be played in a single-player or in a multiplayer mode using a platform with MS-DOS, Windows 95, and Mac OS operating system. It is playable on a 386-based PC, but a Pentium CPU is preferred for maximum rendering quality. The video game requires players to fight virus-infected robots while navigating labyrinthine mines. The primary objective of the game is to find and destroy each mine’s reactor core, rescuing hostage workers and escaping before the mine is destroyed by the meltdown. It progresses from the Moon to Mercury, then through the solar system and outbound towards Pluto’s moon Charon. Players gain points through a complementary system that awards points when an enemy robot is destroyed or a reactor is detonated. Bonus points are awarded on completion of a game level and on the number of hostages picked up and safely rescued.
a word of warning
Be careful not to rename the extension on .sow files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
what is a file extension?
A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .sow. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
