Set Up a Password in Windows XP

Set Up a Password in Windows XP
In Control Panel, click User Accounts.

If you don’t have a password in Windows XP, you’re susceptible to unwanted PC use from other people, possible hacking attempts and loss of privacy. It’s important to set up a password for each person who has their own account on the PC. Here’s how to do that.

To set up a password for a user account in Windows XP:

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. On the Control Panel window, click User Accounts
  4. On the User Accounts window, under Or Pick an Account to Change, select the name of the user.
  5. In the window that appears, click Create a Password
  6. In the next window, enter your desired password, confirm the password and enter a phrase to act as your password hint on the corresponding boxes provided. Then, click Create Password.

Now that a password has been generated, the next time you log on, you will be prompted for it. Remember that this is case-sensitive. If you want a hint of what your password is, just click the hint hyperlink.
