Hi there,

Could you tell us more about what you are trying to update? Are you referring to the Windows updates?

Also, what is the file extension of the file that opens up with Microsoft Word?

Please provide as much detail as possible, so we can help guide you in the right direction.

James

I feel you should try reinstalling AVAST on your computer, to enable the program to automatically install all updates. You will not need to manually update AVAST anymore. Also, the update files are .EXE files and do not open with Microsoft Word. Please feel free to test this and share your feedback here.

Hi,

You can uninstall Avast completely to solve this problem.

Sometimes it's not possible to uninstall Avast the standard way - using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel. In this case, you can use the uninstallation utility avastclear.
  1. Download avastclear.exe on your desktop
  2. Start Windows in Safe Mode
  3. Open (execute) the uninstall utility
  4. If you installed Avast in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
  5. Click REMOVE
  6. Restart your computer
I hope this helps.

Regards,
Lokesh

I kept getting the blue screen with Driver Power State Failure error message and then my computer would restart. I found your product and it did not happen any more. I just purchased an anti-virus (kaspersky) and now it is doing it again. It is so frustrating. My computer is only 6 months old. It is a Asus desktop.
